Wine Night

Sometimes, you have the choice to get mad or to laugh and join in; A glass of wine helps with the laughing =)

Holiday Weekend Relaxing

We hope you all had a wonderful three-day weekend! After our busy trip to LA last week, we took advantage of the extra time by having a low-key, sun-filled, R&R weekend.

Sunday morning we spent some quality time outside. While Alex was doing the first 8 miles of his 14 mile run, Noelle and I took in the local wildlife down by the bay:

Lots of baby geese!

What are those things?

Then, the jogging stroller and we joined Alex for his last 6 miles along the waterfront. Six miles was pushing the limit of Noelle's endurance in the stroller, but she was a real trooper. After, she practiced proper long-run recovery with Daddy.

Re-hydrating together

Today Alex took care of some very important house-hold task; returning & replacing a broken microwave and getting us dinner! While at the store, he treated Noelle to a special ride, the shopping cart with a 'kid car' attached.

Now this is the way to travel!*

Finally, we spent some time simply relaxing and playing ball in the front yard. At one point, Noelle asked/demanded for my sweatshirt =) We were all sad to see our low-key weekend come to an end!

Jedi Noelle pointing out an airplane

Why are we stuck in the back yard alone?

* Alex would like others to learn from his experience: Do not position the cart such that the toddler is within arms-reach of candy. Just a tip!

Hello, Baby Girl

Today we headed over to a 3D ultrasound place in Pleasant Hill to get a sneak peak at our new little lady.

What a cutie =)

The 3D technology is so much fun. What a treat to get a preview of our baby girl! We did the same thing with Noelle. In fact, a picture from Noelle's 3D ultrasound was our first blog post (here)! This time it was very special because we had Noelle along to experience it with us.

Who's that?
The technician starts in regular (2D) ultrasound mode (above picture) to get a fix on the baby's position and then switches to 3D imaging. She confirmed for us, again, that baby #2 is in fact a girl =) After checking out the room, Noelle wanted to get in on the action.

What's all of this goop?

Then, it was time to have a snack and relax.

Here, have some of my cheese.

It's hard to believe that our due date is less than three months away. We're all excited to meet our newest family member =)

Pasadena Half Marathon

Last Sunday Alex and I had a wonderful time running the Pasadena Half Marathon! Noelle's Aunt Stacy and Uncle Ian kept her at their apartment the night before the race so Alex and I could relax and enjoy our race day. Thanks, guys!

Happy at the finish! (credit)

Last year, when Alex was a  resident adviser at Avery, we ran a training group together for some undergraduates to prepare for the 2011 half marathon. Due to a wedding, we weren't able to run the actual race ourselves. So, we promised to come back and run it with them in 2012. Little did I know when I made that promise that I'd be 6 months pregnant. I am so glad that we made that commitment though, because it served to motivate me to keep running a lot and complete a half marathon at 27 weeks pregnant; something I probably wouldn't have done without the extra support.

The whole event really couldn't have gone smoother. I love small(er) marathons for that. Plus, we really made things easy on ourselves by staying at a hotel, the Saga Motor Hotel, located right at the start/finish line. The hotel even let us use their conference room, free of charge, to host a little pre-race breakfast with our group!

Before; all ready to run

After; happy to be done!*
This was the 4th running of the Pasadena Marathon and the third time Alex and I have run the half marathon together. We completed the 2009 race and then the 2010 race, when I was 14 weeks pregnant with Noelle (running a half at 14 weeks is easier then at 27 weeks, ha!). I'm a little sad that we likely won't be doing this race again; we have had so much fun doing it =)

* Don't worry, everyone finished and we didn't lose five people; we just couldn't find everyone for a post-race picture because some folks finished too far ahead of us. I blame the baby bump =)

Good Traveler

We had a busy, fun-filled weekend in LA. So busy, in fact, that we forgot to take pictures! The only picture we have of Noelle from the weekend is this one of her enjoying an Oreo in the car =)

A car ride isn't so bad with cookies

Noelle was an excellent traveler all weekend. She's a real trooper. Friday afternoon we drove down to LA (6 hours driving) and then we came back Sunday evening. Both times we only needed to stop once for a gas & food break!

On Saturday we attend my sister Stacy's baby shower/going away party. She and her husband, Ian, are moving to Milwaukee in two weeks! Grandma and Grandpa Brock were on hand for the festivities as well. So, Noelle got all kinds of attention!

Aunt Stacy and Uncle Ian kept Noelle on Saturday night so Alex and I could enjoy the Pasadena Half Marathon on Sunday morning. We had an awesome time and it was our third Pasadena Half Marathon together. The last time we ran it was in 2010 when I was 14 weeks pregnant with Noelle. Running it at 14 weeks pregnant was easier then running it at 27 weeks pregnant yesterday, ha! I think I'm done with half marathons for a while now. We'll post some pictures from race day soon.

On Sunday we were able to relax and catch up with some LA friends. All-in-all, it was a wonderful weekend =)

Surprise Day with the Parents

When we arrived to drop Noelle off at daycare today we discovered her provider was sick (She had tried to call us; I may have an issue with leaving my phone on vibrate and not checking it, maybe.). Anyway, surprise, we got to spend the day with Noelle! Alex took the morning shift while I went to some meetings and then we traded places at lunch. We both enjoyed our extra alone time with our little miss =)

Alex and Noelle had a low-key, Sesame Street-filled morning.

Doing the hand motions for "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" w/out dropping the bottle!

Yum, ball

After a wonderful lunch of Spaghetti-O's, Noelle took an extra long nap. She and I then headed to the waterfront for a very nice run & park session. One thing I will definitely miss about living in the East Bay is the wonderful running/biking trail along the water.

Heading out for a run (Noelle insisted on those shoes!)

Terrible views, just terrible

This too, how do we manage?

Tired after her long play session at the park!

Weekend of Celebrations

This past weekend was full of celebrating!

On Friday, we had a BBQ at the house to congratulate two of our dear friends who finished their PhD thesis recently. Both are friends of ours from Cornell, Pete and Jascha (geez, we've known these guys more then 10 years!), and it has been a very happy coincidence that we all ended up at Berkeley at the same time! I'll blame pregnancy absent-mindedness for forgetting to take any pictures at the party; but suffice it to say a good time was had by all!

Saturday was Alex's big day, he turned 31! An afternoon of fun was had with the backyard sprinklers. Noelle ended up soaking wet and very quickly stripped down to a diaper =) Unfortunately, all of our pictures ended up over-exposed. So, we'll have to capture sprinkler fun another day.

Noelle also enjoyed sharing some birthday ice cream with her Daddy. It was a bit of an impromptu stop. We were on our way to the grocery store when all of a sudden Noelle starts yelling "num num" (her word for "yummy") from the back seat. As it turns out, we were right next to the ice cream parlor we take her to. Oh no, she recognizes the building =) Clever routes to the grocery store must now be scouted.

Finally, today was Mother's Day. Noelle and Alex treated me right, with balloons, flowers and breakfast. I also got a nice Coach purse that I picked out myself at an outlet last weekend =)

This afternoon's entertainment was a  trip to the Tilden Park carousel. We managed to get a few pictures this time. Now, we all need a weekend to recover from our weekend!

While Mommy is Away...

...toddler will play with her eyeliner =)

This is how Mommy does it

We're light on pictures this weekend since I was out of town visiting friends. Soooo nice of Alex to give me a break! I'm sure we'll have more commentary soon =)
