Muir Woods National Monument

Today Alex returned home from a 9-day trip to Vienna, Austria. Noelle was so happy to see her daddy at the airport. I wish I had brought the camera in from the car!

From the Airport, we headed across the Golden Gate Bridget to Muir Woods National Monument (because, really, who doesn't want to go hiking right after an eleven hour flight?). While it was a bit touristy for hiking and very crowded (we didn't realize that today was a 'free' entry day, oops!), the woods were in deed very beautiful. Also, the weather was wonderful and it was a very easy hike to do with Noelle. We stayed on the 2.2 mile paved loop trail. I think Noelle walked at least 1/2 mile of it!

Is Mom getting fat?

What? I wasn't going to climb over, really!

All that walking is hard work!

Daddy brought me a new dress =)

Potty Training Test

We're in no hurry to potty train Noelle. I think diapers are a lot easier than several "I have to go potty" requests while out running errands; especially since Noelle can't yet say "I have to go potty".  =)  While at Target today, though, I noticed a little potty for only $12 and thought, 'why not get one in the house and have her get used to the idea?'. So, home the potty came.

When we arrived home from a trip to the park this afternoon (side note: just because she asked to go in the jogging stroller, I shouldn't have any expected that she'd be happy about it 15 minutes later) I told Noelle that I had to go potty and asked if she wanted to come (side note 2: She always wants to come. If I go without her, she'll stand outside the door crying. How long before I can 'go' alone?).

So, in she came and she spotted her new little potty. A little chair? She knew instantly it was for her. She plopped down in front of me. Then, however, she noticed my pants were down. So, she wanted her pants down too. No worries, easy enough. No pants wasn't enough though, that's not even! She demanded all of her clothes be taken off. Eh, I went with it. Then she decided to really examine her new throne:

How DOES this thing work?

A little curiosity is a good thing, right? Well, when I turned around to put the camera back down she peed all over the floor. No biggie, except she slipped in it before I got back and scared herself half to death. Sigh, mommy fail. I was sure I had just scared her away from the toilet forever. Fifteen minutes later, though, clean and happy after her bath, she headed back to give it another try:

I'll leave my clothes on for now

Okay, good, she's not afraid of it. A few hours later, after pooping her diaper, she ran in and pointed to her little potty... asking me to take her clothes off again. Uh, we have the order wrong, but the concept is right! Maybe this potty training thing is closer then I think.*

* After she was in bed I went to the restroom (alone for the first time all day!) and saw that she had put a square, just one, of toilet paper in her new potty. I almost died laughing!

Apples are Good!

For whatever reason, one of the first words that Noelle started saying consistently was 'Apple'. She loves apples. Usually, she asks for an apple, gets it, then happily eats it. She'll even run around the playground while eating an apple. She holds apples in the stroller. If she has a security object, it's an apple. Sometimes, though, this would happen:

1. Noelle asked for an apple with a clearly dictated "apple".
2. We gave her an apple.
3. Noelle took a bite of the apple, threw it on the ground, and then asked for another "APPLE".
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for however long it took us to make it up the parenting learning curve (too long).

Once, I even went to get myself an apple from the bowl and discovered they all had little bites taken out of them. Hmm. Then we thought to hand her a nectarine.

Noelle says, "Yumyum, apple!", and happily walks away eating it. We learned that, to Noelle, 'Apple' = 'round fruit I want at the moment'.

Tonight, then, was a very special Sesame Street episode for Noelle. It was about how yummy apples are! Two minutes into the episode she ran up to me an asked for an apple, then happily sat in her chair eating it though songs and skits about the wonderful fruit that is the apple. Tonight was definitely an 'apple' night!

Even Cookie Monster says apples are good!

Holiday Weekend Fun

We have had a eventful holiday weekend. On Saturday, I finally decided that I had 'had it' with our cheap, plastic trash can and that we absolutely had to do buy a nice stainless steel one. Irrational? Perhaps, I blame the pregnancy. While out on our 'emergency' shopping trip, we were able to have some fun, though =)

First whoopie pie - success!

Fountains are fun!

Noelle started Easter off right by coming into the bedroom with a bag of jelly beans and asking me to open them. Jelly beans before 8am? Check! Clearly, if you've looked at this blog at all you can tell we aren't on the latest bandwagon of keeping kids away from sugar. The day only got better from there with a lot of Easter traditional fun.

Halfway through pregnancy and a half marathon

On Saturday I celebrated hitting the halfway mark in the pregnancy (20 weeks) with a half marathon. Grandma and Grandpa watched the little miss while I headed down to Waukesha for the city's annual race. It was a great, well-run event and I had a fantastic time. A more detailed description is on the running blog: link.
Happy at the finish line =)

If the second half of this pregnancy goes as quickly as the first, our little lady will be here before we know it!
